welcome to goldvale . intro post #1
It begins with a flash of blinding light.
No matter what they’re doing, the light is so stunning that they pause to shield their eyes. Logically, it seems like such a bright light would hurt their eyes, and yet somehow, it’s not painful at all. It’s strange, but stranger still, a moment later, the ground underneath them is gone. They’re falling, and it feels like they’re falling for a long time as their eyes adjust after that light.
Yet, it’s not long at all—they’re only falling five feet or so. But as they, and others, appear in the air, there’s a shriek of alarm.
“Beryl—Go!!”
A man’s voice shouts after the scream, and as their eyes adjust, they’ll see two blurry figures, the woman running away while the man briefly stands his ground with a dagger raised before he takes advantage of the confusion to flee as well and cover her. You, and all of the other disoriented strangers, have been left alone. There might be a few bruises from the fall, but otherwise, there are no new injuries. It’s a strange lobby, but nothing about it seems helpful to reveal where you are. Following the two figures is fruitless too, since the door at the end of that hallway is sealed shut with magic—no one will be able to pass through.
So, just where are you?

tw: word vomit in this tag
a bleak situation, but revealing displeasure is something hirato only does around barely a handful of people, only one of which is present, and the good doctor here is honestly not really included in that group.
what would the world come to if the assigned guardians and protectors were to act weak in front of the people they're supposed to guard? ]
Come now, Akari-sensei. Shouldn't you have a little more faith in my ability to expect the unexpected? [ and, without giving akari a proper chance to respond-- ] As the one mainly responsible for your well-being, I must ask you to keep me updated on your activities and, preferably, your most relevant findings as long as we remain here.
[ this is where he leans in uncomfortably close. ]
But no doubt you know the protocol by heart, sensei.
tw: even more word vomit i'm not sure what just happened
[
you mean things got interesting at the start of the series wow who knewbrb patching that tiny tear in the fourth wall
it's all for the best. if they each wear the faces they're accustomed to, the other will be put at ease. the small stuff is what matters! fighting like cats and dogs is a luxury that keeps a person from thinking about how he can't go home.
and as for protocol? yeah. every letter of it is etched into that brain. circus fights; the tower researches. offense, defense. active, passive. protect, be protected. personal feelings do not enter into the equation - under no circumstances are the wants of the individual considered more important than the needs of the organizations.
so for all answering to hirato is not on his list of priorities, what else can akari do? he's a commodity to be kept under close eye, not unlike the specimens he's observed himself. intelligence like his can't be jeopardized. the organization would suffer for his loss. (maybe not so much if karoku is still in their care: objectively speaking, that man is probably a genius that can't be categorized.)
--personal space bubble violated. ]
Acting as if I need a babysitter... [ you're the one who acts like a child!! whines the guy who throws goddamn tantrums when people get too close to him. he's a caged animal - if the anger in his voice doesn't betray him, the look in his eyes surely does. hirato gets any closer and akari will have to push back. ] Cooperation is in both of our interests, but daily progress reports are useless. I'll pass on information as it becomes relevant.
[ gonna have to hire a stalker from the thieves guild if you want the full rundown of akari's daily life, though ]
we're out of control (gyea)
hell yeah sonit's become some kind of routine, this bantering they always seem to engage in, and maybe it's a good sign that they're able to keep it up in this situation. at some point along the way it's managed to become something fundamental and natural. here it's mainly a way to stop thinking about how they most likely can't go home just like that.but some parts of him still insist on longing for the routine. it's something so much of his person is built upon that having it all snatched away borders on maddening. circus fights and the tower researches. hirato works on his own agendas alongside precious few allies and jokes it away whenever someone comments on him being suspicious. to be trapped here is a loss for both himself and the organization as a whole.
the best he can do for now is to secure dr. akari as if he's a valuable stone or something like it. of course he's well aware that this is a person with his own thoughts and wants, but it's frightfully easy to slip into thinking of everything in terms of resources like oil or water. ]
Now, now. Mind your blood pressure, doctor. I just wanted to lay out the terms as clearly as possible for you. [ and also to piss you off for the sake of my own amusement!! haha!! but for now he refrains from pushing the limits any further-- both the physical and verbal ones. ] Very well. I'll trust your judgement on that, Akari-san. Please make sure to pass on any relevant information you come across.
[ he's on the stalker thing tbh ]
